As some of you may know Kenny Hope is retiring after many years of service to Refereeing in Scotland and Europe, Glasgow Referees' Association are having a Retirement Dinner for Kenny on Saturday 10th March, in the Hilton Grosvenor Hotel Glasgow  (http://www.hilton.co.uk/glasgowgrosvenor) 7pm for 7:30pm start. Ticket prices are £35 each. Guest speakers will be ex-FIFA Referees, Willie Young and Kenny Clark, if you would like to attend this event could you please email me with the number of tickets you require. 

8/1/12 - REMINDER this month's meeting will be held at 7.15pm on Thursday 12 January 2012 at DGOne, Hoods Loaning, Dumfries. Guest speaker is Willie Young, former category 1 and FIFA referee. Tea/coffee and sandwiches will be provided and a raffle is being organised by the President.

31/12/11 - This week's training will take place at 7pm on Thursday (5 January 2012) at the David Keswick Athletic Centre

14/12/11 - Congratulations to both Lloyd Wilson and Stephen Bell who have been promoted to Category 4A and 4B, respectively, referees

14/12/11 - Next monthly meeting will be held at 7.15pm on Thursday 12 January 2012 at DGOne, Hoods Loaning, Dumfries. Guest speaker at this month's meeting is Willie Young, former category 1 and FIFA referee.

8/12/11 - Due to the current weather conditions it has been decided to cancel this month's meeting

30/11/11 - There will be a fitness test at the David Keswick Athletic Centre on Tuesday 6 December 2011 for members on the assistant referees list. If any additional members wish to join the list then a short seminar will also be arranged.

16/11/11 - next monthly meeting will be held at 7.15pm on Thursday 8 December 2011 at DGOne, Hoods Loaning, Dumfries.  Please note that the meeting will be in the bar area on the middle floor of the facility. Willie Young is now unable to attend this meeting and will now speak at the January 2012 meeting

31/10/11 - The Social Committee is in the process of organising a Christmas Meal for all Association members.  This will take place at the Pizzeria, Dock Park, Dumfries on Saturday 10th December at 7.00pm.  The meal is £26.95pp for a 3 course meal. Members wishing to attend the meal please let Lloyd or Billy know via telephone or email before 03/11/2011 to ensure plenty of notice for the booking.  We hope you can all attend! 

19/10/11 - Recently the Scottish FA launched a new Corporate Plan ‘Scotland United’ and has been making changes to improve all aspects of how they operate. This is an exciting and important time for Scottish Football as they have for the first time a clear direction together with an improved structure where non-professional football associations have a stronger role to support the growth and development of our game. Details of the forthcoming Regional Roadshows which will form a key part of the roll-out of our new plan are given in the attached letter.

18/10/11 - next monthly meeting will be held at 7.15pm on Thursday 10 November 2011 at DGOne, Hoods Loaning, Dumfries. Representatives of the local amateur and youth leagues & from the Southern Counties have been invited to attend the meeting and will be able to answer any questions that you may have. 

 25/9/11 - next monthly meeting will be held at 7.15pm on Thursday 13 October 2011 at DGOne, Hoods Loaning, Dumfries. Steven McLean, Referee Recruitment and Education Manager for the SFA, will be in attendance to give a presentation on his role in the Referee Development Department and will also take the monthly coaching slot.

Classes for new referees will start:
at 7pm on Monday 5 September 2011 at the David Keswick Athletic Centre, Dumfries.

And on Tuesday 6 September 2011 at the Ryan Centre, Stranraer.

Anyone over the age of 16 years (by December 2011), male or female, who wishes to become a referee should come along on the night to enrol. For further information contact one of the coaches (Donald McGuffie on 01387 256932 or Willie McKnight on 01671 403306)

23/06/10 Congratulations to Brian Templeton who has been appointed as an assistant referee to a UEFA U-19 tournament to be held in Sweden from 6th to 13th October this year. The tournament involves teams from Sweden, Russia, Ukraine and Denmark and Brian will officiate along with Cat 1 referee Alan Muir

Donald McGuffie Retiral Meal
 
As you may be aware, the conclusion of season 2008/09 marked the end of Donald’s service to the Referee Categories for Senior Football, after a dedicated and long-standing service.  To mark this occasion, a meal has been arranged for Saturday 27th June 2009, details as below:-

The cost of the evening is £13.95 (2 course) or £17.95 (3 course) per person, and it is hoped that as many members as possible can attend.  Additionally, there are tickets available at a cost of £6.00 per person for those that wish to attend ‘So Below’, a basement venue with a live performance by ‘Earl Grey and the Loose Leaves’ – details of both can be viewed at www.soyoucafe.co.uk

There was a meeting of all Association Referee Instructors & Coaching Co-ordinators held at Hampden Park today.  Donald McGuffie, Colin Saunders, Brian Templeton and Derek Stocks attended.  Donald & Colin attended the Instructors Course giving presentations on Laws 9 & 10.  Brian and Derek attended the Coaching Co-ordinators Course and gave a presentation on Offside.

A regional training day is being organised in conjunction with the Ayrshire, Glasgow & Renfrewshire Associations for all Category 4, 5, 6, Probationary & Trainee members and will be held in Ayrshire on 3rd May 2009. Further details and the venue will be advised in due course. All members are encouraged to attend this event.
